Western Banjo Frog - Limnodynastes dorsalis

Like most frogs the coloration is highly variable, but they commonly have the the lighter colored mid-dorsal stripe running from the snout to their rear, plus the dark elongated irregular patches running parallel to it and the dark wide stripe through the eye. The most obvious features however are the large oval glands on the upper portion of the calf. These frogs can grow quite large (to around 75 mm, excluding legs), but in this region they are usually smaller, maybe this is due to fox predation who hunt the larger burrowing frogs during autumn when food is scarce. Their call is the well known banjo type 'bonk' that can be heard around most swampy areas. It can an be heard here: http://frogsaustralia.net.au/frogs/display.cfm?frog_id=35
